This is a survey I created on SurveyMonkey for my general audience research. I sent it to people through whatsapp as I know they are all within my target audience age range, in total I got twenty people to complete my survey and from this I can get new information and opinions about music magazines as well as just my own. These are my results:
1) Do you buy/read music magazine? If yes, why? If no, why?
First of all, I chose to ask this question to see how popular music magazines actually are and their reasons behind buying or not buying them. My results have shown that the majority don't like to purchase magazines, the most used reason is that they don't want to waste money or they just don't interest them. For the few that said they do purchase them, the reason was always that they like to keep up to date with music and artists they can enjoy. The main thing I can get from this is when I create my magazine, I will put a low price on it and include a range of interesting articles on the front.
2) How often do you buy a music magazine?
I chose to include this question as it would be helpful to know how often people purchase music magazines and from this and the questions to come I can decide what would make people buy a magazine.
3) What is the main thing that makes you want to buy a music magazine?
I asked this question to see what the first thing people will look at on the cover of a music magazine, this will help me to make certain things stand out more than others. Most people said the image on the cover is the main thing that would make them want to buy it so from this I know that my chosen image will have to be really interesting and good to look at. The second most voted thing was the content, so will have interesting and attractive headlines on the front that are noticeable and to follow up the article inside will also be intriguing and engaging.
4) What features of a music magazine tend to be bad or the least enticing?
I asked this question so I know which features of the magazine I will have to work on a lot and make sure they aren't done badly or are uninteresting. A lot of people said tat the colour scheme is usually the worst thing about a magazine, so I will make sure that my chosen theme actually works properly and goes with the genre. Interestingly, the layout seems to be the next most voted for, insinuating that also tends to be one of the worst features, this is also reflected in the previous question as no one voted for layout being a factor as to why they would purchase the magazine.
5) What features do you expect to see in/on an 'Alternative Rock' magazine?
I asked this question to see what other people, apart from myself, think should be included in and 'Alternative Rock' music magazine. Also, as it helps to know what people from my target audience think should be included in a magazine that is aimed at them, if they take an interest in the genre. A lot of people mentioned dark colours or a theme of red and black which is what I was planning on doing, this is good as I know that people think similar things to what I believe an Alternative Rock magazine would have.
