Coldplay - Clocks
This music video's image fits well with genre the music actually is. The video starts off very dark with some beams of light shining through to make it seem eerie and different, with this genre you often see things like dark lights so this works well. Once the music has started you can see that the band are on the stage performing to a crowd which is also very common with Alternative Rock music videos as they are showing that they are 'real' and that their music is real rather than having a video with a story instead that is shown while the music is played along to it. The lighting throughout the video stays quite dark but the colours change, so there is dark blue lighting at one point but then it changes to a dark red then green. I have noticed that there is a lot of focus on the instruments because they are a very important part of the music than just the lead singer. The clothes they are wearing are fairly plain, they appear to be dark but that could be down to lighting, and very casual, the clothing doesn't directly fit with the typical style of Alternative Rock however they are dark and not following the route of popular clothing.

Green Day - American Idiot
This music video is similar in some ways to the Coldplay, obviously the music is fairly different but they still do class as Alternative Rock because it is such a broad type of music. I think the angle the cameras are pointing at the band emphasise their image, for example there are a lot of low angles/worm's eye view shots, these are probably to make the band seem more intimidating or important. The colours in the video are all quite dark, like the Coldplay video, and even though two of them are wearing ties, they don't look smart. The colour of the clothes being worn by all three of them are mainly black but there might be a small bit of colours, such as red or grey. Also, I've noticed they all have tattoos which is common for people that are involved in this genre and the lead singer is also wearing a lot of black eye liner, which is uncommon for men but this makes them different to other bands or artists as well because they are doing things their own way. The lighting and colours in the video are very dull and dark which is common for Alternative Rock.

Alternative Rock - Brief Overview
http://hollyrosa9856800c54e0792.edu.glogster.com/alternative-rock/
This is a poster I created on glogster to show some of the basic research I have done about the msic genre 'Alternative Rock'. Continuing from this basic information and research about 'Alternative Rock', I will also conduct further research about the genre to enable my knowledge to grow but also so I have a better understanding of how to present and create my music magazine visually so it actually fits with the type of the music. I have decided I am going to look into the presentation of the artists through fashion and their overall image, so how they pose etc. As well as this I have decided to research and analyse Alternative Rock music videos and see how they also present themselves there as well as how much I think it links to the genre.

Magazine Typography
This is a mood board I created of different music magazine mastheads and fonts. I created this so I could get a general idea of what looks best for a font used in a music magazine and to also look at what is most appealing to audiences looking for a specific genre. A lot of the colour schemes used within the writing are either red, black or white and this is because they stand out best and look good together and therefore audiences will be more attracted to buy the magazines. You can also tell from the fonts which age groups the magazines may be aimed at, for example 'Top of the Pops' looks like it would be aimed at a young audience due to the bright colours and lower case writing whereas 'Spin' could be aimed at and older audience due the the simplistic font and minimalist plain colours that stand out too.

Research Rationale
My chosen music genre is Alternative Rock and I am going to conduct all my research on this, I have decided to use this genre as it is one of the main genres of music I listen to. Majority of people who listen to this type of music are teenagers, approximately between the age of 11-19 but other ages such as early 20s/30s may also listen too. The target group I have chosen will be teenagers as I am surrounded by them due to the fact that I am in a sixth form with 16-18 year olds. However as the school is from age 11-16 I will also conduct research using them through surveys that all students can take part in. As I am surrounded by my target audience my survey and research will be quite accurate but also conducted fairly. Asking this range of age groups will allow me to understand the types of music people listen to but also what type of music magazines people would buy.
The research I will conduct will include both qualitative and quantitative . The qualitative research will enable me to get a wider range of views, I can also carry out individual or focused group interviews or surveys using questions that relate to my target audience and chosen genre. For the quantitative research I will do a simple questionnaire or survey aimed at my target audience and get simple responses, this is an easy way of getting opinions but without the inconvenience of it taking too long to answer questions. From these types of research I will hopefully gain an understanding of what sort of appearance to go for on the magazine such as graphics, fonts and colours.
On top of this, I will also conduct further research by either using web 2.0 to find different types of magazines to analyse but also physically going into shops and either buying magazines to analyse and de-construct or just taking pictures of them individually or as a whole. This will help me to notice what is common in a magazine and what works well or doesn't work well. I will take from this the best parts and ideas on the covers and use them to develop my own ideas.
